ASCA and SC State Standards

These national K - 12th grade standards describe the knowledge, attitudes and skills students need to achieve academic success, college and career readiness, and social/emotional development.

South Carolina student and professional competencies based on ASCA standards are addressed within this state school counseling guidebook.

Career Development Resources

Paws in Jobland is an interactive website that allows young students to explore all 16 career clusters and jobs within those clusters. 

This website allows students starting in early middle school to identify potential careers by discovering personal interests, searching within career industries, or for specific careers. Important career information, such salary and work conditions, is provided.

Each of the 12 competencies identified within the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate are discussed in-depth at this website. Toolkits for addressing these student competencies within schools are provided.

This webpage from the SC Department of Education provides family resources on camps, developmental milestones, readiness guides, and much more to ensure SC student achievement and success. 

SC First Steps provides early learning and support services that include access to free preschool, health and wellness services, disability, and other family support resources. 

This website has a wealth of family, teacher, financial aid, and curriculum resources within South Carolina for all stakeholders.

Special Program Resources

IDEA is a law that ensures appropriate public education and services for disabled students. This website is a one-stop shop for IDEA information and resources. 

Under IDEA, IEP and 504 Plans ensure services and accommodations to students with special needs. The Family Connection of South Carolina website provides in-depth information on the process of forming these plans for student success.

This South Carolina resource helps people with disabilities understand and defend their rights. The group provides services that include client assistance, training, abuse & neglect investigation, legal assistance, and advocacy for change.

Social Development

This website provides the ultimate list of diverse children's book recommendations from 2022. You can also see lists each year from 2021 to 2016. 

The SC Department of Education provides information on the process of addressing bullying with students and relevant laws. Resources are provided for teachers, families, students, and communities pertaining to in-person and cyberbullying.
