What Does a School Counselor do? What is a Comprehensive School Counseling Program?

School counselors develop, implement, and evaluate a program that addresses student's social, personal, career, and educational development through data-informed planning of interventions. This is done within the guidance curriculum and through individual and small group counseling, responsive services, connection to community resources, schoolwide program initiatives, and system support. Student competencies addressed through the program include personal heath and safety, postsecondary planning and readiness, interpersonal, and intrapersonal effectiveness.
